Week 53: ¿¿UN AÑO YA??

9-29-14
Hola familia y amigos,

so I have no time, as always, so just a few bullet points!!

-Thanks for all the letters this week.  I really enjoyed them!! Good to hear everyone is good!
-I have been studying a part in Preach my gospel this week about how to work better with the members. To help them be animated with missionary work and with their callings.  do you have any experiences or ideas that you have seen with the missionaries that have helped you be excited to work with them.  I need the view point of members.  Also I invite you to study Preach my Gospel!!  And also the conference talk follow up by Ballard
-Also I AM SO EXCITED FOR CONFERENCE!!!  SO EXCITED!!  I am getting my questions ready!!  I invite you all to do the same!!  Prepare questions so that you can get the extra guidance you need in your life and the most out of conference!!!
-I have one year as a missionary now!!  funny story: at the end of the night, we were out of time and it was time for bed and so I just took a quick selfie with my one and that was my celebration.  Well my roommates and comp. love me and lot and surprised me and bought me pizza and made me a card and notes and such.  They are so great! haha A lot better than my dumb quick celebration.
-Also we had an activity with all of the leaders of the mission and we played volleyball in the chapel in Villa Acero, my first sector.  It was so weird to be back there but also fun to remember all the good memories.  And Hermana Ayuso was there too!!
yep that is all!!! I love you and have a great week!!  Also I will write you next week mom about what I do as a Sister Training Leader.
Con amor,

Hermana Corbett

Week 51: People dying left and right!!

9/15/14
Hola Familia y Amigos,
So this week has been crazy fun and just plain crazy.  So this past weekend we have heard of like 10 deaths in Penco.  It has just been a little weird.  5 of them were members of the church or family members of the members of the church.  And then the other 5 were just when we were contacting in the street and people were telling us they were heading to a funeral or coming back from one.  One couple told us they had just left one and were on their way to another.   A little bit weird of a weekend. haha  And then also on Saturday it was the Day of Service for the Church in South America.  So half of the mission went to a HUGE cemetery here in Concè.  We mainly cleaned out all of the dead flowers and threw them away.  It was a little weird but cool to see a little bit of the culture of Chileans in how they treat their deceased.  They have like a three day program when someone dies. The first day is the viewing, the second is where they have a time to talk about all the memories, and then the third is the actual funeral and when they go to the cemetery to bury them.  It is kind of cool but long.

Also we dressed up two little cousins in our ward with our scarfs and missionary badges.  Are they not so cute?  haha

Also we went to the beach (two blocks away) today for a zone activity.  We played volleyball and made hamburgers. The elders brought the oven from their house to the beach.  Yeah a little extreme in my opinion, but it all worked out great!!  haha And I collected some shells and sand for you mom and dad!!!
So yeah that is all that I can think of for this week!!  It sounds like everything is going great!!  Loved all the pictures mom!!
I would love to hear from all my long lost older siblings though!

LOVE YOU ALL!!

-Hermana Corbett

p.s. Oh and this week on the 18th is the "Independence Day"  of Chile!! AND IT IS HUGE!!!  I will send a million pictures next week!!  It is going to be so fun!! I already have had a cueca dress made for me and we have been practicing the cueca (the national dance.)  So fun and elegant!  And I am going to get so fat this week because they just feed us Empanadas left and right on 18 de Septiembre. yeah!!!!  Viva Chile!!

Week 50: Lessons Learned!

9/8/14
Hola Familia y Amigos,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Abby y MAMÁ!!

So I am going to write a few things that are a little more spiritual this week.

Since I have been on the mission I have learned a lot more about the Atonement and that there are a million and one sides to the Atonement,

Here are the three main things that I have learned about the Atonement.
1. It is not only for him to understand me, but so that I can understand others.  I have prayed so many times on my mission for Christ to help me understand someone else.  Especially with my companions.  When I have no idea at all of why they are doing what they are doing, Christ does.  And it has helped me to se others through different eyes and to take on each situation with more understanding and patience.  Patience not only with them but with myself as well.
2. I have learned to understand that the Atonement is not only for those seeking repentance, but also for those that are doing fine and need to be raised higher.  The talk by David A. Bednar in the past conference April 2014 has helped me understand this so much.   It has taught me that I do not only need Christ when I am not doing okay, or when I have sinned or when I have a big challenge in front of me.  It is also for the everyday tasks and to help me keep growing even when I am in easy times. And this has helped me to strengthen my relationship with Christ, so that when the hard times come, I already have the strength and relationship to overcome the hard times much easier.
3. And the last thing I have learned is that the statement "He suffered so that I don't have to" is so true!!  Sad feelings after sin are on purpose to help us feel a desire to do better, but these feelings should leave after one has repented.  He has paid the suffering price of our sins so that we don't have to pay the whole price. Because if we had to pay the whole price it would take way to long and by the end we would not have any more time to get better and we would be useless to him, because we would not be able to help further his work and keep moving forward.  So he being perfect paid the price so that we could repent and move on.  Repent and MOVE ON!  And that is something I am still working on.  To really forgive myself, because when I am focused on the past I can't progress and I can't be any use to him either to help further his work.

I am just so grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow in the gospel, my relationship with Christ and my willingness to follow him more fully every week.  And I am grateful and excited to be able to share what I have felt and learned with my brothers and sisters.  I have seen so many lives change because of this Gospel and because of Jesus Christ.  It is so amazing!! And it is just the best work in the world and the most satisfying feeling in the world.  Doing beats the work of the Lord!!
Love you all and have a great week!!!

Soy Mormon. Lo Sé. Lo Vivo. Me encanta.

Con mucho cariño,
Hermana Corbett

Just some random pictures.  The one dog was sleeping in that position.  As missionaries we find joy in the simplest and dumbest of things! ahah  The other do picture is of my favorite dog here in Penco that has an arm twitch and we made a really funny video with this dog and it tells us what direction to go.  It has the twitch and so it looks like it is continually pointing in one direction. haha so funny.  One day you will all get to see it!

Week 49: CONCEPCIÓN TEMPLE!!!

9/1/14
Hola familia y amigas,
FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS MARIAH!! AND DAD!!! AND BROOKE!!  I hope you all have great b-days!!
It sounds like the beach was so great but not quite as great as it is going to be when I am there next year!! haha  But sounds fun!!  Loved all the pictures!! Everyone is so big and different!  WEIRD!

I got my package!!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I have missed twizzlers.  Also I ate my last two reeses from my last package the day I got that package because I had been saving them for a special occasion.  A new package full of reeses seemed special enough.  haha  I love all of the socks.  I think I should be set on everything for a while, probably until the end of my mission.  Loved all the HANDWRITTEN letters and photos.

So today we had leadership counsel which is with all the leaders and president once a month.  It was great and I learned a lot!! But I got extra lucky because this time we got to do something special beforehand. We went to the temple grounds and had a little devotional.  It was so great and we could feel the spirit so strong.  Loved it!!

So not really much to report this week, just that I am doing well with the new sector and Hermana Baturité! I love her!  And I have learned a bit of portueges this week.  Just how to pray so far!! I love it!  Also it has been pretty awesome to be speaking spanish 24/7.

We are working hard this week to just find new people because we don´t really have anyone that is progressing.  So yeah just working til we drop.
So here are a few pictures of Hermana Baturité with me, the package, our sector( yeah lots of hills right!?!?!  But also the best views of the sky and the beach!!  Yeah I will find you some good shells one p-day Dad) and then the last picture was just funny of the two dogs.  hahah we got a good kick out of that!

Enjoy the fotos! I love you all!!
I pray for you all!!
-HERMANA CORBETT

p.s. Also in October we are going to get to go back to Chillan for one day to shop, and I have a thing or two for each one of you guys, but if there is anything specifically that you want let me know and I can try to find it.

Week 48: VAMOS A LA PLAYA!!!

8/25/14
Hola familia y amigas,
So cambio have come once again and after 6 months in this amazing little town of Bulnes I am finally leaving!! I am going to Crav which is in the City PENCO, which is right on the beach!! The chapel is one block from the beach.  I am so pumped!! And my companion is Hermana Baturite from Brazil and she is 'dying' this next cambio!! I am going to 'kill her' in mission terms. And we will be serving as Sister Training Leaders together.  SO PUMPED!! But I still have not excepted the fact that I am leaving Bulnes.  I don't how I am going to do it!! They have become my family and I know I will see them again one day, but it doesn´t make it any easier!!  Especially saying goodbye to Yubeniz will be a heart wrenched.  I am just going to bring a lot of tissues around with me tonight.
I have loved being with these people and helping them grow closer to Christ.  I have loved being a trainer and a comp with Hermana Howe.  So many amazing, spiritual, hilarious, awkward moments together.
Well that is about it because this last week we have just been working our butts off and I have to pack and do about 20 billion other things in the next 3 hours so we are going to get going!! I love you all so much and have a great week at the beach!!  Did you get to see any Killer Whales Abby? haha love you!
I want a million fotos from beach week!!

Love you all,
Hermana Corbett

Fotos:
Hermana Howe has a boss camera, so we took advantage of the amazing backdrops and falling apart houses that exist here in Bulnes and had a foto shoot last week.  It was fun.  haha yall know me and pictures.
We also made sopapillas with Yubeniz and Teresa in a Noche de Hogar(FHE) last Monday.
And just a few of the goodbye pictures I have taken.
